STEM Events

Hello everyone and welcome to the STEM Events page! As we hear of STEM events and activities, we will post them here. Be sure to check back often to see what new fun awaits!
~Mrs. Vella

On Veteran’s day November 11, 2020 at 11:30 AM the NJIT Stem for Success project will host a live stream event.  This ‘STEM in Your Home’ stream will provide a hands-on learning experience to foster participation in STEM by sharing STEM experiences and virtual tours you can enjoy at home with students of all ages. The videos and activities allow you to engage in hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics discovery and fun.

During this event, Stem for Success will present a tandem jump with the US ARMY Golden Knights and a hands-on activity to clean pennies with household items as well as have undergraduate student role models answer questions and share their experiences in STEM.

Blast into NJ STEM Month!

Blast into NJ STEM Month on February 26 with our guest speaker, retired NASA astronaut Steven R. Swanson, PH.D. Swanson joined NASA as a systems engineer and a flight engineer in the Aircraft Operations Division of NASA’s Johnson Space Center working on the Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA). The STA is a complex airborne shuttle simulator, which models the flight characteristics of the space shuttle from 35,000 ft. to main gear touchdown. In May of 1998, Swanson was selected as mission specialist by NASA and started training in August of 1998. During his NASA career, Swanson has completed five spacewalks totaling 28 hours, 5minutes and accumulated 195 days, 15 hours, 41 minutes in space. He also has over 2800 hours of aircraft flight time and has received NASA’s highest award, the Distinguished Service Medal.

Learn more about Swanson's NASA experiences as he shares some personal career anecdotes and speaks about the importance of STEM.
