DCS Founder Retires after 20 years of Service in Education

April 22, 2019

Dear Families, Friends, Students, and Community Partners,

At the end of June, I will be leaving Discovery to relocate to Asheville, NC. This bittersweet moment is filled with the excitement and hope of a new adventure and with the sadness that will come from no longer being a part of this exemplary school and this richly diverse city that has been the highlight of my professional and personal life for over two decades. The people of Newark are beautifully resilient, caring, and welcoming. I will miss you and thank you for the love and lessons you have so generously shared with me.

As some of you may be aware, Discovery took in its first students in 1999. During this time I have had the pleasure and privilege of getting to know some amazing parents and families and watching hundreds of children grow and develop and reach many milestones. I feel blessed to have worked for such a long time in this community.

A big thank you to all the folks past and present that have supported and continue to support Discovery. It has been an honor getting to know you all. I will particularly miss the daily smiles and greetings I receive from our students and staff. Sometimes if it’s a rough morning, that’s all it takes to turn around the day!

I encourage you to continue to value and support the arts in our school. Arts education, as I’m sure you’ve seen, can enhance and support all learning. It is something to be valued and cherished. With the support of our amazing teachers, art teachers, parents, and the wider school community, we have built our arts program into something extraordinary. We should all be incredibly proud of what we have achieved together through dedication, perseverance, bravery, and love.

June 26th, Graduation Day, will be a sad day for me, but I leave knowing that we have built an innovative, high-achieving school and I am confident that Discovery will continue to provide an excellent teaching and learning environment for Newark’s children. You are welcome to come in and chat with me at any time to discuss the new and exciting ways our futures may evolve.

With Appreciation and Love,

Dr. Hall
